Safety and Environmental Recommendations for Packaging, Storage and Transportation
1. Packaging Requirements
Pyrite powder is prone to dust dispersion and may react with certain substances under specific conditions. Its packaging should meet the following standards:
- Material Selection: Use sealed, moisture-proof and wear-resistant packaging containers, such as lined plastic woven bags, sealed iron drums or composite paper-plastic bags. Avoid using paper bags that are easy to break or leak, to prevent powder leakage and dust pollution.
- Sealing Treatment: Reinforce the bag mouth with double stitching or heat sealing to ensure tightness. For large-scale packaging, add a sealing ring at the drum cover to prevent air and moisture from entering.
- Marking Specification: Clearly mark “Pyrite Powder”, “Avoid Moisture”, “Prevent Dust Explosion”, “Non-Toxic but Irritating” on the package surface, and attach the product specification sheet, including composition, hazard warning and emergency contact information.

2. Storage Precautions
Safety Protection
- Storage Environment: Store in a dry, ventilated, cool warehouse. The warehouse temperature should be controlled below 35℃, and the relative humidity should not exceed 70%. Keep away from heat sources, open flames and oxidants (such as potassium permanganate, hydrogen peroxide), to prevent oxidation and heat generation that may cause spontaneous combustion.
- Stacking Standards: Stack the packages on pallets to keep them 10 – 15 cm away from the ground and wall, which is conducive to moisture prevention and ventilation. The stacking height should not exceed 2 meters to avoid package compression, deformation and leakage. Different batches of products should be separated by labels for easy management.
- Fire Prevention and Explosion Prevention: Equip the warehouse with dust – proof explosion – proof electrical equipment (such as explosion – proof lamps, explosion – proof fans) and fire – fighting facilities (such as dry powder fire extinguishers, sand buckets). It is strictly forbidden to use open flames or smoke in the warehouse. Regularly check the electrical circuits to prevent static electricity accumulation.

Environmental Protection Requirements
- Dust Control: Install dust collection devices (such as bag dust collectors) at the warehouse entrance and loading/unloading areas to collect the scattered pyrite powder and avoid dust flying into the surrounding environment.
- Waste Disposal: The damaged packaging bags and spilled powder should be collected in a centralized manner. They can be reused after treatment or delivered to a qualified waste disposal unit for disposal, and it is strictly prohibited to dump them at will.
- Monitoring System: Regularly monitor the air quality around the warehouse. If the dust concentration exceeds the standard, take timely measures to strengthen ventilation and dust collection.
3. Transportation Precautions
Safety Protection
- Vehicle Selection: Choose closed transport vehicles (such as sealed vans, tank trucks with anti – corrosion lining) to prevent powder leakage during transportation. Avoid using open – top vehicles. The vehicle should be equipped with fire – fighting equipment and emergency leakage treatment tools (such as sand, absorbent cotton).
- Loading and Unloading Operation: Operate gently during loading and unloading to prevent package damage caused by collision and falling. It is strictly forbidden to mix pyrite powder with oxidants, acids, alkalis and other hazardous chemicals in the same vehicle for transportation. The loading and unloading personnel should wear personal protective equipment (such as dust masks, gloves, protective clothing) to avoid inhaling dust or direct contact with the skin.
- Route and Time Arrangement: Avoid transporting in high temperature periods (such as noon to afternoon in summer). Choose the route away from residential areas, schools and water sources. It is strictly forbidden to stay near heat sources and open flames during transportation.

Environmental Protection Requirements
- Leakage Emergency Treatment: If package leakage occurs during transportation, stop the vehicle immediately in a safe area, isolate the leakage area, and use sand or absorbent materials to cover and collect the spilled powder, to prevent it from entering the soil and water body. Do not flush with water directly, so as to avoid causing water pollution.
- Post – transportation Cleaning: After unloading, clean the vehicle thoroughly in a designated area. The cleaning wastewater should be collected and treated to meet the discharge standards before discharge. The cleaning residues should be disposed of together with the waste packaging.
- Compliance with Regulations: Comply with the relevant transportation regulations of the country and the region where the transportation takes place. For long – distance transportation, go through the necessary transportation approval procedures and carry the transportation documents.
4. Personal Protection Requirements
In the whole process of packaging, storage and transportation, the operators should wear appropriate personal protective equipment:
- Wear a dust mask to prevent inhaling pyrite dust, which may cause respiratory tract irritation.
- Wear chemical protective gloves and protective clothing to avoid skin contact with the powder, which may cause dryness and itching.
- Wear safety goggles during loading and unloading to prevent the powder from entering the eyes and causing irritation.
